Despite polls that show New Jersey voters still favor the punishment, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine looks poised to sign legislation if it is sent to him. From the Courier Post Online-
The Legislature moved New Jersey closer Monday to becoming the first state to pass a law repealing the death penalty since it was nationally reinstated in 1976.To me the victim's families want justice. Michelle Malkin has the response from one family member who doesn't want the death penalty abolished in the Garden State. The state Senate passed the measure 21-16, and the Assembly Public Law and Safety Committee advanced the bill by a 5-1 vote to the full Assembly. The Assembly will take up the bill Thursday, positioning New Jersey to replace capital punishment with life in prison without parole by early next year.
Support for the repeal in the Legislature comes from different areas. Some oppose it on moral grounds, while others say the unused law -- no one in New Jersey has been executed since 1963 -- is unfair for victims' families who seek swift justice but have to endure a lengthy appeals process.

Senate President Richard J. Codey, D-Essex, said the best thing for victims' families is "to be honest with them."
"Don't tell them we are going to execute somebody when the reality is that it's not going to happen, at least not here in the state of New Jersey," said Codey.
If passed by the Assembly as expected Thursday, the bill then goes to Gov. Jon S. Corzine, who has until Jan. 8 to sign the measure. Corzine has strongly indicated he will sign the bill.
Truth is even if the families want the killer put to death, New Jersey has proven itself unable to enforce this punishment with no executions in almost 45 years. Whether the death penalty is abolished or not matters very little if a Governor is unwilling to sign a death warrant.

I guess this is part of the plan to run more of their citizens out of state. Soon there will not be enough to pay the salaries and graft of the political machine. The only residents left will be the criminals and they'll kill each other off.

NJ is just plain loony. Corzine will sign this travesty to protect the N Jersey Mafia I suppose. I love Cape May but N Jersey is hopelessly leftist and socialist as well as just plain crooked. As a cartoon character is want to say, Run Run.
