Having made no progress in shaking support from Hillary Clinton, John Edwards' campaign has turned its attention to second-place Barack Obama, who they castigate for playing up his initial opposition to the Iraq War while voting to fund it in the Senate. In an email to The Hill, they also claim Obama is parroting Edwards' ideas:
The criticisms represent an apparent change in strategy for the Edwards campaign. Thus far this year it has directed most of its fire at Clinton's campaign.Edwards's campaign also blasted Obama for parroting the former senator in a foreign policy speech he gave Tuesday in which he said he wanted to work towards ending nuclear proliferation. They said the senator has followed Edwards on a number of issues this campaign year, including healthcare, poverty and now nuclear proliferation.
"If you need any more proof that John Edwards is shaping the race for the Democratic nomination, you don't need to look any further than Senator Obama, who has followed Edwards's lead on healthcare, poverty and, today, eliminating nuclear weapons," Murray said in an e-mail to The Hill. "Next thing you know, he'll be rooting for the Tar Heels."
Read the rest at the link above. And, yes, you Edwards true-believers, the title isn't an Edwards quote. It's called, "license." Talk to a Ron Paul supporter - they'll fill you in.
Naturally, as has marked his campaign so far, Edwards doesn't like to say the tough things himself, so he had his campaign spokesman, Colleen Murray, do the dirty work. Since Edwards hasn't managed to make any real progress in his support in the polls all year long, it's hard to imagine claiming to be the first on these issues in the Democratic echo chamber will do him any good. In the one state he's shown strength, Iowa, three of the last four polls show him in THIRD place.
Edwards' best strategy would be to withdraw now and avoid the February rush. He should start a personal injury law firm. He has little to offer as a Presidential candidate, but the guy was born to be a TV Spokesmodel.

For John Edwards, desperate times call for desperate measures. I think even the Dems are onto Johnny boy.

Envisioning him as President is sort of amusing. There he'd sit, surrounded by a small buzz of angry women, dozens more cubbyholed and blogging like mad. And in the mirrored throne room? Smiles all around.

Most of us have decided we don't want another co-presidency. Edwards' campaign so far has been mostly comic relief.

Nutty Jeffrey Toomer thinks Hillary will appoint Obama as the next SCOTUS opening. He would be unassailable said Toomer. Not only are all 3 of them nutty but please tell me just what Obama has in his resume that would give him any SCOTUS cred?
