Campaigning in Davenport, Iowa, yesterday Michelle Obama told supporters:
"Iowa will make the difference," Obama said. "If Barack doesn't win Iowa, it's just a dream, but if we win Iowa, then we can move the world as it should be. And we need your help in making that happen so join me. "
Read the entire article by Tushar Rae of The Quad-City Times at the link above. An earlier version had the quote as, "If Barack doesn't win Iowa, it's over." This began to spread until the campaign supplied a transcript with the above language, which most media outlets, apparently including the QCT (who had first reported the "it's over"), are accepting.
Perhaps a subtle difference such as this should be submitted to Senator John Kerry, "The Guillaume de Grimoard of Nuance," for neo-papal adjudication. However phrased, though, Mrs. Obama may have just been honest with the crowd. Hillary Clinton holds large leads in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida, so the tight race in Iowa represents the best chance to show a chink in her Armor of Inevitability. If Edwards beats her and Obama finishes third (or worse), the Illinois Senator will find himself in a deep hole. If they both top Clinton, though, it could shake up the race no matter who is first and second (although a second in Iowa is hard to see as a win for Edwards, given the time and resources he has put into the state).
No matter how she phrased it, it's astute political analysis from the Senator's wife. He still might be best advised not to start using the slogan, "Buy one, get one free" though . . .

What struck me more about that quote was her belief that she and Barack "can move the world as it should be." Her husband might be talented (I stress, "might be"), but he's not a farking Magician.

I'm almost certain that what she actually said was "if we win Iowa, then we can move toward the world as it should be."
Because that theme -- the difference between the world as it is and the world as it should be, and the calling to move the world toward the latter -- is something she touches on fairly frequently. And because "mov[ing] the world as it should be" makes no sense.
