Congress' approval dips below Bush's rating

While Democrats have pointed to President Bush's low approval numbers with glee for some time now, the Democratic Congress has sunk to a mere 29% approval, below even the President's 33%, in the latest Gallup Poll, as Ed Morrissey notes at Captain's Quarters:

How bad is it? Even Democrats mostly disapprove of Congress. Only 37% of the majority party's voters think that Congress has performed well; Gallup doesn't mention the percentage that disapproves, but it seems almost certain that it outstrips 37%, unless more than 26% are clueless. Congress gets its worst ratings not from Republicans (25%), but from independents (24%). That should get the attention of leadership in both chambers, who owe their majorities to those independents.

Read it all at the link above.

Personally, I await the excited reporting of these numbers by the fMSM with bated breath.

I won't bate it for long, though . . .

Poor Congresscritters. How... (Below threshold)

Poor Congresscritters. How can we help them along?

Jim,I saw this and... (Below threshold)
Ken Hupp:

Jim,

I saw this and immediately emailed the editor at the PMSNBC home page and asked if this poll would get the same breathlessly excited posting and attention that was given every single bad Bush poll trumpeting his popularity at an all time low. I specifically asked if they would do the honorable thing by prominently displaying the story on its homepage with an appropriate headline like "Approval for Democrat Congress sinks to a new low." Wanna make a wager on whether I've even received a reply?

Ken

Wanna bet it has something ... (Below threshold)
kimyl oh:

Wanna bet it has something to do with the stalled minimum wage, the failure to curtail the war effort, or address health care problems?

That's why Democrats are disappointed, and I would guess Independents as well. It's not like people are saying that because Bush is at 33% that means 67% of people want more liberal policies!

Dissatisfaction with government is a way of life in America, and you can bet that if they got the war to end their popularity would jump. Also, if the Senate would help them finish their popular agenda (negotiating drug prices, minimum wage increase, student loan rate cuts, etc. etc.) that would go a long way. Those easy first few laws the House passed have 70-90% approval.
