Obama: "I can't do it."

After his gaffe in Virginia where he claimed the Greensburg, Kansas tornado resulted in "Ten thousand people dead," Senator Barack Obama admits he simply isn't up to the job of President, as Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times reports:

Said Obama, "I can't do it on my own. I can't do it. There are gonna be some times when I get tired. There are goin' to be times when I get weary. There are goin' be times when I make mistakes."

Read the whole article at the above link. At least Obama is man enough to admit he lacks the right stuff. I mean, if you can't handle ten weeks of campaigning for President without breaking down, how can you expect to perform the actual job?

Look at recent Presidents' pictures at their inaugurations and again just before they left office: Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush the Elder, Clinton, Bush the Younger - every one aged far more rapidly in the Oval Office than the actually time elapsed. When you're President, you live in dog years.

There is no shame in realizing you're not qualified to be President. Very few are, and most of them wouldn't take the job on a bet. At least Obama still has his youth and his brains. He can gain experience over time and perhaps one day aspire to the most important job in the world.

Would that other wannabes like Edwards, Paul, Kucinich, Tancredo, and Gravel have similar epiphanies.

UPDATED 4:38 a.m. to add: The inimitable Mark Steyn's response to the Obama quote above:

There are going to be times when he wishes he could lay his burden down. There are going to be times when he'll be trying to give a speech while operating heavy Democratic Party machinery. There are going to be times when he'll feel all of his 45 years, and the toll of campaigning non-stop for five months now. There are going to be times when he wishes he could just duck out for a cigarette. He gets weary an' sick of tryin', he's tired of fig'rin' how many's dyin', but young Obama, he jes' keeps rollin' along.

ROTFLMAO!! Steyn entices me to include my own previous but unwritten thought:

He may be weary
Senators, they do get weary
Wearing that same ol' shabby face
But when they get weary
Try a little tenderness

Oh, yeah! Heh! Heh! Heh!

RIP, Otis Redding . . .

I guess you could add Rudi,... (Below threshold)
Allen:

I guess you could add Rudi, Milt, Newt, John, et all to the list that couldn't handle it also.

Matt:

I think the problem with Obama is he just isn't meant enough to succesfully run for president. Hillary is mean enough to fight it through to the end. McCain, definitely mean enough. Rudy, the man exudes mean and might make it if he watches what he says and ducks the voters.
