I would guess Bruning is just applying for the Establishment's attention regarding national job prospects. Nothing wrong with that. I expect he'll invest minimally in his own campaign. It's cheap to run in Nebraska. Win-win.

Hagel is not winning friends with his stances, especially on Iraq. and sad to say it, but whenever a republican is held up in the MSM as a positive example, that generates a LOT of distrust with conservatives.

Hagel's criticism of Bush is not his only problem with Nebraska voters. His open-borders, "amnesty lite" immigration policies are wildly at odds with the wishes of most Nebraskans. Any credible Republican candidate will beat him in a primary. Whether Bruning is that candidate remains to be seen. Hagel failed to learn the lessons of Tom Dashle's defeat. At the end of the day, your consituent's wishes matter.

Chuck Hagel stated in a TV interview that he's thinking of running for President as a third party canditate and he mentioned Mike Bloomberg New York City mayor as a running mate, Mike Bloomberg????? I live in NJ and outside of the NYC area nobody's heard of Mike Bloomberg. Bloomberg happens to be a billionaire and a very liberal republican. Hagel stated he's very unhappy with the republican party,he said it's not the party of Reagan and Goldwater--yeah right so this republican party misfit selects a liberal as a running mate?????--- I smell a rat here---the real plan as I see it is to use Bloomberg's money and Hagel's name recognition and anti-war stance to insure the democratic party's victory in the 08 election,obviously the plan is to take away votes from the republican nominee,whoever that may be.-----I believe some powerful democratic operatives are in back of this "Ross Perot" type third party plan involving Hagel and Bloomberg.
