Kerry: Imus shouldn't be fired

John Kerry says Don Imus' punishment was too harsh, since the Rutgers women accepted his apology, reports the Worcester Telegram:

"To me it was in the hands of the young women and you know they made the judgment that they thought he was genuine and they felt they could forgive him," Kerry said. "I think it was appropriate to pay a price on the airwaves, but I'm not sure that it was appropriate to say you're off forever."

Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee for president and a frequent guest of Imus, also said he would be willing to appear again with Imus if he were to return to the airwaves.

Read it all at the link above.

The most ridiculous aspect of this whole farce is that Imus was fired after Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton spoke with CBS CEO Les Moonves. Anyone who would give five minutes of his time to those two hucksters, much less take their advice, has no place running a lemonade stand, much less a Fortune 500 company.

Perhaps that's why Viacom spun off CBS, and Moonves with it . . .

Well, the professional race... (Below threshold)
Thomas:

Well, the professional race-baiters like "Rev" Al Sharpton, have finally found a way to give the Republicans a way back into the game for 2008.
Rest assured that Karl Rove was overjoyed by the Imus affair.

All things considered, Don Imus was an anti-war liberal on most issues. If some people can't handle his eccentric brand of old-school, east-coast humor, then let them change the fk'ing channel! Do they also need to change the channel on everyone else's TV?

This was a display of the most overblown, phoney hand-wringing over a few words (the same words used every day of the year with impunity by respected black musicians and comedians in the USA). It's the flood of crocadile tears from media airheads like Al Roker that eventually rips white American males away from the Democratic Party and delivers them up to the Republicans by the millions!

Is Al Sharpton now willing to put up the funds like the $100,000,000+ that Imus has given to charity over the years, for projects like the Imus ranch for kids with cancer (including black kids)? The same Imus who strongly defended Harold Ford Jr against race-baiting TV ads in the recent Senate race?

It might help if Sharpton and Jackson could develop a basic sense of American humor and irony ....please!
