Even though we were not able to hold onto our critical Senate Majority, we were still able to retain many Senate seats and keep the Senate margins extremely close.

That means the Democrats won't be able to annihilate our agenda as easily or as quickly as we previously feared, and we will be able to protect President Bush's veto if necessary.

Plus, with the margin so narrow, we will have an excellent chance of regaining our Senate Majority in the next election...

And what does 'close margins' have to do with either governing or winning back in 2008 (since these new Senators are safe until 2012)

I will never again utter one word that even remotely might seem as defending Dole - I promise you.

By the way - comforting to know that the GOP leadership was in fear about their agenda being annihilated easily and quickly BEFORE the election.

Wait a minute - I guess keeping the margins close refers to the 51-49 balance...

Was this the goal - when we had a 55-45 lead going in. Whatever happened to achieving a filibuster-proof majority, rather than rejoicing we are in the minority (but only barely)

Well, that's what I've been talking about.

I have high hopes for John Ensign. I hope he is planning an itinerary for holiday travel already, so he can begin meeting with potential candidates and squeezing the donors.

If he can hold our losses in '08 to -3, he will have succeeded. Based on an even outcome, since we have 21 seats at risk to only 12 for the Democrats, we should expect to lose 4-6. If the Democrats pulle 53% of the congressional vote like they did this year, we could lose ten easily.

THIS cycle and the last were the ones where we had an advantage. Allen failed to recruit any candidates at all in the West, but was lucky his failure was covered up by our pick-up of five seats, which ought to have been eight, including Reid.

So, THANKS, Mrs. Dole, for all you do and have done. Now please sit down and stay the hell out of the way for the rest of your career.

Perhaps Mr. Stevens will bring out his "series of tubes", "it's not a big truck you know", and show us Boy George's "internets."

Yeah, he's a piece of work alright....you folks just pine away for his re-election. I know I am. And i sure as hell know John Stewart is.

What a f*****g shame - the asshole social facists lost the house and the senate. Maybe we'll get some real Republicans out of this. But I doubt it - the party of the Christianista will remain the property of the Christianista.
