One of the closest Senate races in the country is Missouri, where incumbent Republican Sen. Jim Talent is being challenged by Democratic Attorney General Claire McCaskill. At a St. Louis meeting so "private" that even a local Democratic primary winner was kept out, independent blogger Antonio French ("PUB DEF") managed to get in. From the report by PUB DEF:
McCaskill listened quietly to Palm and Leggette before taking the floor. In a spirited voice, she told them that she would do everything she could to make clear to every Democratic voter that "George Bush has no better friend than Jim Talent."
McCaskill said she would remind people that "George Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black.""That's what I'm talking about," interrupted Palm. "Your people should be videotaping that right now!"
Read the whole post at the link above - hat tip to Gateway Pundit for the story. As he observed, local media isn't interested in reporting a McCaskill gaffe. Even PUB DEF didn't headline the post with her outrageous comments, thinking the exclusion of State Senate candidate Jeff Smith was the most newsworthy.
Read the comments, too - at least those which haven't been removed.
Such despicable lies about the President aren't exactly new on the Democratic left, whose grasp upon reality has always been tenuous at best. It is odd for a statewide candidate in a "battleground state" to parrot them, though. Perhaps McCaskill wasn't aware a blogger was in the room?
It remains to be seen how this plays in the rest of the state, especially the rural areas where McCaskill has been trying hard to convince voters she's isn't a looney leftist.
UPDATE 3:44 p.m.: Senator Bill Frist is demanding McCaskill apologize:
But it is totally unconscionable to suggest that the Coast Guard helicopter crews who worked hours long past regulation were intentionally leaving poor, black Americans to die on their rooftops ... or that our National Guardsmen were discriminating against poor, black Americans as they struggled to deliver life-saving supplies and coordinate evacuation efforts ....or that President Bush didn't do everything within his power to help the citizens of New Orleans regardless of class or color.
Claire McCaskill should apologize immediately to President Bush and the members of the rescue effort that she slurred. This baseless attack demonstrates perfectly why Mrs. McCaskill is unfit to serve Missouri in the United States Senate.

I hope she does no such thing. As far as half truth look no further than Rush Limburger. Nope. I wouldn't give Jim Talent, nor George Bush the time of day, much less fight a war for them. I been down that road already. Making sure that I CAN vote and I am not defrauded like down in Florida. Nor can that little punk Matt Blunt screw me out of my vote. Makes me ashamed I was in the USN. But what does it stand for anyways? The whole government is a tool for wealthy scoundrels. Can't wait until Nov 7's referendum. OUT THEY GO. OUT.. OUT OUT!!

Let me get this straight. George Allen's "Macaca"
comment gets multiple front page coverage from the Washington Post and is repeated on local and national television throughout August. But Claire McCaskill's irresponsible, over the top, mean spirited comments don't even warrant a mention from her home state press? And the media wonders why its held in such low esteem. They make lawyers and used car salesmen look admirable by comparison.

Some have suggested I delete irrelevant comments like the flames dropped by "David" and "bob" above.
I prefer to leave them up. They demonstrate to any thinking person that the left is not only devoid of any ideas or positive contributions, but many of them aren't even decent human beings.
So, dear reader, when you see a comment that offers no thought whatsoever, and merely spouts insults and malice, ask yourself very carefully: should I be VOTING with people I wouldn't even want to be in the same room with?

Jim,
There appears to be no evidence here except for the PUB DEF site, which I've never heard of and appears incredibly amateurish. He has a YouTube video up that is unintelligible and appears not to have captured the incident. It's not that I don't believe it--Democrats have been saying this kind of nonsense for the past year--but I don't see anything to go on here.

Yes, I would expect the McCaskill campaign would have swiftly denied it, if it were untrue. Instead, they are stonewalling and trusting the media has their back.
I thought one of the hysterical comments at PUB DEF was a hoot - it went something like "What right do you have to publish false, slanderous, malicious and UNEDITED remarks from a meeting you weren't invited to?" (Emphasis mine). Yes, he should always EDIT out anything harmful to the Dem candidate, shouldn't he? After all - the Compost-Disgrace does . . .
The YouTube might be sucker bait. Suppose he reported as he did, and McCaskill came out and vehemently denied saying it. THEN he comes out with the video of her, and she's dead meat. The lousy "hidden camera" vid put out first just lets them know he had a camera there, so lying may not be an option.

This dimwit Democrat from my home state has offered me some inspiration with her vitriol. Lacking anything serious to debate she's taken to lies and insults. Talent, her opponent is doing fine in the polls and will coast to another win regardless of what she says or does now.
But thanks to her idiotic yammering, I just sent off a hefty contribution to Talent and a letter to his campaign headquarters volunteering to do whatever I could to help him defeat this dingbat.
Who says Lefties can't inspire.

UPDATE: Just called McCaskill's office and they ARE in full damage control mode now. They do not deny that McCaskill said those things - they can't - so they tried two tacks with me:
First: "taken out of context" yadda yadda...
Second: "we have issued a public statement" yadda yadda.
The first was their way of saying "When we said "Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black," they like so totally didn't mean ya know like Bush actually let people die or stuff. See you take that out of context and you might read that from the comment.
The second was a not-so-fancy way of saying, "I'd rather not talk anymore about this. In fact, I'd rather be down at the local Starbuck's having a Frappucino (make that a double).
In case you'd like to hear the spiel, here's McCaskill's campaign HQ phone number:

Really? Where's your evidence? And if she told the truth, then why is she weaseling now - refusing to take credit for her "truth" but rather claiming her comment was taken "out of context?"
And you're right about one thing for sure - Republicans seem to be the only ones interested in the truth. What she said was race-baiting hate speech and is typical of what Democrats call "debate" and "truth." The fact is, she thought she was among friends and her hateful speech would not get reported. That's the truth.
And soon she will pay for it. Talent already has a 7 to 9 percent lead over her and this will only widen it.

MacaCaskill got caught with her knickers down.
She thought she could parrot the leftist meme, although it was long ago proven false, in a setting where it would be sympathetically received. Instead, a blogger in attendance reported it publicly.
Now she runs and hides from her remark. Is that the sort of spineless leadership Democrats want to give America? Not even enough guts to stand up for what you said yourself?
