**LIEBERMAN CONCEDES PRIMARY, but vows to fight on in general election race. Scroll to end for updates.**
8:23 -- No results in the Lieberman - Lamont race have been reported yet, but when they are you can find them at this site.
Update (9:00 p.m.): The link above is not working, but Drudge has posted the following early results:
Lamont Leads In Early Results
Connecticut // U.S. Senate - - Dem Primary
128 of 748 Precincts Reporting - 17.11%
Lamont, Ned Dem 30,219 56.34%
Lieberman, Joe (i) Dem 23,414 43.66%
Update (9:30) Jim Addison adds that The Connecticut Post has election results listed by town.
Update 10:15:<a href="http://Drudgereport.com">Drudge has the siren up with a Lieberman loses headline, but no link yet to a call in the race. I will update with a link when I find one.
Update 10:35: Fox News just reported Lamont leading Lieberman 52 - 48% with 84 percent of precincts reporting, but has not yet called the race.
Update 10:40: Commentary from Katherine Jean Lopez:
Here's some spin for the odd right-Lieberman allies:Subject: So, where's the Lamont Landslide?
I am reminded of Marvin the Martain asking "Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!"
Yes, yes there is still tiem for Lamont to have a giant rush at the end. But somehow I am doubting that.
If the best the "netroots" can do is a 51-49 (in essence a draw) in CT of all places, this could be fizzling more than an Illudium Q-38 Explosive Space Modulator.
The Hotline blog reports that Lamont is awaiting Lieberman's concession call.
11:05 -- Lieberman is speaking. Says tomorrow the campaign will file petition with Sec. of State to continue campaign for a new politics of unity and purpose. If voters will send him back to Senate as an independent Democrat he will continue fighting for progressive principles, but will not quit working with members of opposing parties if it will help citizens. Will always do what he believes is right for state and country regardless of political consequences.
He is asking people across the nation to visit his website "when it is unhacked" to join him to fight divisive politics. Also asked for a campaign contribution.
Update 11:22 p.m.:Lamont's speech (what was carried of it) was really bad. After Lieberman spoke against divisiveness, Lamont served a heaping helping of it. With Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson just over his shoulders, he did not have a kind word for Lieberman (at least as long as the camera was on him) and he called for the return of our troops, engaged in a bloody civil war in Iraq, to a hero's welcome. Huh? I have not listened to this guy enough before now to realize just how ridiculous his rhetoric is. Let's say everyday how badly our guys are losing in Iraq, then let's bring them home to a "hero's welcome." It is Dean scream time now. I will go insane listening to this guy for three more months. I have a feeling that the independent voters of Connecticut might, too. Even many of the liberal ones.
Joe sounds ready to go, and Ned is spouting more of the same. If Lamont was smart, he would have taken the high road and talked at length about how important it was to unite the party and would have even thrown a few kind words Lieberman's way. That way he would have possibly made Lieberman look a bit sad for trying to continue after suffering the loss. Lamont would have looked like a bigger man. Instead, he looked small, especially with the moonbat posse behind him. Has anyone used "moonbat posse" before to describe the Sharpton, Jackson, Sheehan, etc. cast of characters? If not, I want to claim it now. [See update below -- Lamont did find a "few kind words" to throw Lieberman's way. Well, two to be exact. And he did make a reference to unity, but no talking "at length" about the importance of uniting the party. I was live-blogging this from the televised version, which did not show the entire speech.]
I finally figured it out! I have been trying to figure out who Lamont resembles and I just realized he looks like President Logan in "24." Am I the last person on earth to notice that?
I should have known fellow Carolina girl, Sister Toldjah, and I would be on the same wavelength. "Lamont is giving his victory speech. Rev. Jesse Jackson can be seen in the background. So can Rev. Al Sharpton. If Cindy Sheehan weren't stalking the President in Crawford, she'd probably be there, too." Ha! The moonbat posse. That's what I'm talking about. From now 'til November.
Update (1:40 a.m.) -- Here is a report which includes a portion of the Lamont speech which I did not see watching television. As soon as Fox cut away from Lamont's speech, I turned immediately to CNN and they were running a commercial so they evidently cut away before Fox did, so I don't know whether or not any of this ran. I will need to check a transcript of the speech to know whether the following came before or after the part I saw aired:
Lamont, speaking to his supporters during a victory celebration after Lieberman conceded, urged Lieberman not to run.I am glad to know that he did have a few kind words for Lieberman. It is a bit difficult to reconcile even that brief statement, though, with the rest of Lamont's speech."I want to thank Sen. Lieberman for his campaign." Lamont said. "I want to thank him for the dignity and decency in which he has represented our state and our country, for many, many years.
"I'm hoping, that over the next few days that he will come to the conclusion that the party is going to stick together and go forward united," Lamont said.
Perhaps even more difficult to reconcile is the comment to this post which included the quote above:
Hilarious, Lorie. You couldn't have spent less effort on this post. It took me about five seconds to find this CNN article detailing Lamont's victory speech, including his kind words for Leiberman and a call for unity... I'm sure you'll whine "but those parts weren't carried!"How could I have so misjudged the tone of Lamont and his supporters? Yeah, it is all about spreading the love.Maybe you should watch something besides FAUX News.

That site shows a big Lamont lead by county, in early figures -
Easton - Joe 224, Ned 284
Oxford - Joe 250, Ned 262
Seymour - Joe 451, Ned 310
That's at 8:57 . . . in each of those towns, there are more Lieberman votes reported in any county on the other site. But my site, the Connecticut Post, offers results by town, not by county, and I can't find a running statewide total.
Whatever became of Gerry Dale?

From what the Election Analysis guy said of the early returns, they were from Windham County, but it still has to be a tiny % in.

no prob, jim. votes have been trickling in in dribs and drabs over the last 1/2 hour. they've been trickling more in lamont's direction. joe had it down to 2.5% at one point but it's slowly crept back up to a 4% lead and unless there's some big precincts out there uncounted, i think joementum's cooked.

Well, too bad. I hope he wins in the fall.
Last week I offered to make a wager with the Lamont backers, if they would give me the points the polls said they were ahead already to make it even. No takers.
Last week had Joe down 13% and 10%. Maybe I should have offered the bet again this morning when it was 6%?

Hello all.
There's a good chance Lieberman may win in November but it's not a lock.
Remember, he lost in a state where he's got massive name recognition to a left-wing NOBODY. The percentage of Dems voting in the fall will be even higher than tonight. So Joe's not out of the woods yet.

Media outlets are given an advance copy of speeches. Perhaps the nice stuff was in that, but not spoken? I wasn't watching Fox - they were in their usual reruns - but I can't remember whether it was CNN or MSNBC I had on in the background, but I didn't hear Lamont actually SAY that, either.

ac patriot -
Thanks for the link to the story. It took me a while to get it up because Moveable Type kept telling me I did not have permission to post. I had to go through the original sign on process that required me finding my password which I have not used in a couple of months. We just upgraded so I think it had something to do with that. I gave you credit in the update, but not by name, and even quoted you.
I am not whining, but I did switch immediately from Fox to CNN as soon as they cut away from the Lamont speech and CNN was already at commercial so they broke away from Lamont before Fox did. (Does Fox get any credit for that?) The quote may have been at the beginning and I either just missed it, or Fox was still on Carl Cameron's commentary, but I found it extremely strange trying to reconcile that quote with the portion of the speech I saw which either preceded or followed it.
As for not taking any time on the post, that is the whole point of liveblogging. If you stop in the middle and go look a bunch of stuff up, then you are not liveblogging. Liveblogging is, by definition, live. It is a frequently updated, stream of thought form of blogging that often requires going back to fill in or correct things when more information is known.
Just a hint, for future reference, you can tell it is liveblogging when there are frequent updates and an exact time is given for each update, rather than just a description like "Update II." Liveblogging something like election results is different from something like a debate or speech that is self contained. This post included a mixture of liveblogging and traditional blogging. Election results come from various sources over an extended period of time so you can, and I did, go to various sites and post links between results that are coming in. I "live blogged" my thoughts on the Lieberman speech as he was giving it. That is why I spoke in present tense. I blogged the Lamont speech immediately after it aired, but before going to any other sources for reaction or commentary. That is why it is in past tense.
