Byron York writes about John Conyers' roadmap for the impeachment of President Bush.
There's a word you won't find in the text of Democratic Rep. John Conyers's new "investigative report" on the Bush administration, "The Constitution in Crisis: The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retribution, and Coverups in the Iraq War, and Illegal Domestic Surveillance." And the word is...impeachment. Yet the 350-page "Constitution in Crisis," released last week, is, more than anything else, a detailed road map for the impeachment of George W. Bush, ready for use should Democrats win control of the House of Representatives this November. And Conyers, who would become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee -- the panel that would initiate any impeachment proceedings -- is the man who could make it happen.Read York's entire column. The facts and arguments in the Conyers work are shaky, at best. Joe Wilson and Jason Leopold make an appearance, which says plenty about the validity of the charges. It is a window into the scary black helicopter conspiracy theory world that might be, though, if the Democrats were successful in November.
In May I wrote about the Democrats' plans for investigations if they took back the Congress this fall. I included a reference to the Conyers document and quoted the following from the front page of Conyers' website, which has since been removed:
The prominent headline on the front page of Conyers' website reads: "Stand with Congressman Conyers. Demand an investigation of administration abuses of power and make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment." The message continues, "I am taking steps against the Bush Administration's handling of the Iraq War and its warrantless wiretapping. I am going to need you to stand with me in fighting for accountability. Join me to demand the creation of a Special Committee to investigate administration abuses of power and make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment."Read all of Byron York's look at Conyers' case for impeachment and then do something to make sure it is never put into action.
Update: Carol Liebau was blogging about this in May too.

I should take this opportunity to plug my forthcoming book, The Intelligent Words of John Conyers. I expect a possible nomination to the Guiness Book of World Records for the first book shorter than its title.
I'm going to do the "book on tape" myself, too. Don't worry, I'll clear my throat once or twice so the listener will know it's "on."
